ABOUT

Why We Want to Host

A s children, our parents brought us to gatherings where we learned about God’s word alongside other believers. These experiences shaped and strengthened our faith and are some of our favorite memories of growing up.

Now, as adults navigating the journey of parenthood ourselves, we’re eager to pass on those meaningful experiences to the next generation, while also growing in our faith too. We’re SO excited about this weekend and anticipate it’ll be truly unforgettable!

Fun fact about this photo, Jason and Julia thought they met at age 27, but they actually met when they were 6! After they had already married, Angela found this photo in a family album and couldn't believe that Julia was in it!

OUR TEACHER

Who is Bob?

Bob Carden came to Christ in 1971, during what is now referred to as the "Jesus Movement." One of the things that characterized this time in the church was a pursuit of the power of the holy spirit, something that has continued to be close to his heart. Between 1971 and 2024, came lots of life, but still central was the desire to see people touched by God's love and power. In 1998, he and his wife, Susan, launched Grace Christian Fellowship, which became Align Ministries in 2022. He continues to serve as a teaching and counselling pastor, both locally and around the country.

Hebrews 10:24-25

Let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, but encouraging one another...

I HAVE QUESTIONS

We have Answers – FAQs

1What if this is out of my comfort zone?
That’s okay! We expect this weekend to be a transformative time that will change lives. Like the hermit crab, you need to be vulnerable and out in the open for a while to discover a better shell.
2What does it cost to attend?
We're asking for $100 per person to help cover the costs of the event. This fee includes five meals, accommodations, and all the essentials. Children 2 and under are free.
3What is the housing situation?
Various accommodations are available from indoor private bedrooms and shared bunk rooms to outdoor camping. We will assign rooms based on group needs to ensure your comfort.
4Do I need to bring my own bedding and towels?
Yes, the bedrooms have vinyl covered mattresses, one queen and 4 twin beds. All guests will need to bring their own bedding, sleeping bags, pillows, towels, etc.
5What is the bathroom situation?
There are indoor facilities, and well as outdoor showers. Please be prepared to conserve as much as possible. For young children, we recommend bringing a potty to use in your bedroom.
6What can we do during free time?
Enjoy the island views, explore, use the on-site fishing poles, sit by the campfire, take a nap, fellowship with friends, play in the sand, play on the ping pong table, etc, etc, etc!
7Can I bring alcohol?
The venue was built to serve recovering alcoholics and addicts. In respect of that, please do not bring any alcohol for the event.
8Can I come and go from the island?
The island is about 100 yards off the mainland (a 3 minute boat ride), so while we have a boat to bring us back and forth, we can only go during high tide. Also, we’d like to maximize the efficiency of our trips so we ask that you make arrangements with our boat captain, Rob Neumer, ahead of time. His number will be distributed upon arrival. He will also be available for emergencies.
9Where do I park?
Parking is available at the Point House which is where the boat dock is located.
10Can I just attend the event for one day?
While we hope that you will come for the full duration of the event — we have many powerful and exciting things planned for each day — it is okay to come for just one day. Please let us know asap so we can plan for your arrival and departure.
FISHER OF MEN

Who is Frank?

There are two Franks in our story: one's the mysterious figure the island's named after – we imagine he was a great guy. Then the other Frank, (who we know is a great guy) just happened to buy Frank's Island and kickstarted The Fisher of Men Foundation.

This foundation aims to guide the spiritually wounded towards a transformative relationship with Jesus Christ through fellowship, retreats, and discipleship. Since 2010, the Foundation has hosted retreats that have seen remarkable recoveries from addiction, alcoholism, life struggles, and mental health challenges, witnessing countless miracles and profound transformations.

Frank has generously donated the use of the island for our event. Should you feel compelled, we invite you to express gratitude for his kindness by contributing through the button provided below.
